What to Write on a Gift Card: Simple Words That Feel Personal

For birthdays, thank-yous and those “just thinking of you” moments—a little help finding the words that sound like you.

A little note. A lot of thought.

“Wish I could bring this over myself. Until then, a little something to let you know I’m thinking of you.”

With love, from me to you

You’ve chosen the gift. You know where to send it. Then you reach the little box that says, “Add your message.”

Suddenly, you’re not sure what to write.

How do you sound caring without being too emotional? What do you say to someone having a difficult week? Does “Happy Birthday” feel enough?

At Fruitify, we believe the card is part of the gift. A few personal words help the person receiving it understand why you thought of them. And those words don’t need to be perfect.

01 · The reason

Start with why you’re sending it

Before writing, ask yourself one question: what made me think of this person today?

Perhaps they helped you when you needed it. Perhaps you missed their birthday. Perhaps you simply know they’ve had a lot on their mind.

That reason is often the best opening line.

Instead of “Best wishes,” you might write:

“Thank you for checking on me this week. It meant more than you know.”

A specific detail makes a short message feel personal.

02 · Your own voice

Write the way you speak

You don’t need formal language to make a message meaningful. Imagine handing over the gift yourself. What would you naturally say?

“I saw these strawberries and thought of you.”
“Something for our favourite person to share—or keep!”
“Wish I could bring this over myself.”

Read your message aloud. If it doesn’t sound like you, simplify it.

If strawberries are their favourite, a gift such as The Strawberry Pearl Bouquet can make that first line feel especially personal.

03 · Birthday wishes

For a birthday, add something only you would say

“Happy Birthday” is a lovely beginning. A small personal detail gives it warmth.

Think of a shared memory, something you admire about them or a plan you’re looking forward to.

“Happy Birthday! Saving our proper celebration for when we’re together. Until then, this is a little love from me.”

You don’t need to fit your whole friendship into the card. One familiar thought is enough.

Pair your words with something chosen for them from our birthday gifts collection .

04 · A little care

For someone having a difficult time, leave room for their feelings

It can be tempting to write “Stay positive” or promise that everything will be fine. But you don’t need to find a solution in your message.

A gentle acknowledgement can feel more comfortable:

“Thinking of you. There’s no need to reply—I just wanted to send a little care.”

Let your words offer company without asking the person to feel better or respond straight away.

05 · Noticed and appreciated

For a thank-you, name the kindness

What did they do that mattered?

Did they stay late to help? Welcome you into their home? Listen when you needed someone?

“Thank you for making us feel so welcome. Something for your table, with love from ours.”

Naming the gesture helps the recipient see that their effort was noticed.

Our thank-you gifts offer a thoughtful way to carry that appreciation to their door.

06 · From you or the team

For a work gift, be warm and specific

A professional message can still sound human. Mention the contribution or occasion, and keep the tone appropriate to your relationship.

“Thank you for the care you put into this project. We’ve really appreciated working with you.”

If the gift is from a team, include the team’s name so the recipient knows who to thank.

07 · The finishing touch

Finish with your name

In the excitement of arranging a surprise, it’s easy to forget the simplest detail.

Unless you intend the gift to be anonymous, sign the card. For a group gift, make it clear who it’s from. Double-check the recipient’s name, too.

A quick check before you send

  • Have you spelled the recipient’s name correctly?
  • Does the message sound like something you would say?
  • Have you included your name or the team’s name?
  • Are you comfortable with the tone of the message?

At Fruitify, we love the thought that someone might keep the little card long after the fruit has been enjoyed.

So write the words you mean. Keep them simple. Let the gift carry them to someone you’re thinking of.

Thoughtfully chosen. Personally sent.

A few words. A lovely gift.

Choose something they’ll enjoy, add a message that sounds like you, and make an ordinary day feel a little more special.
